The Bluebirds Trust are delighted to announce to all members that we’ve reached our £50,000 fundraising target and can now proceed with acquiring a 10% stake in Barrow AFC.
It’s impossible to overstate the huge contribution that everybody has made, be that financial or in giving us your time and expertise. This achievement belongs to everybody who has contributed. It has been a true community effort and one in which we should all take huge pride and satisfaction.
Next steps – Meeting on 9th March 11am
In terms of next steps, dialogue has now been opened with the Club with a view to formalising the required legal framework for the Trust’s purchase of the shares. Further updates on the timescale for this to take place will be given at the next Bluebirds Trust General Meeting on Saturday 9th March, 11am at The Cross Bar.
At this meeting we will also be discussing the way forward for the Trust. Our relationship with the Club has now fundamentally changed. While we all believe that change to be a positive one, it would be wrong not to acknowledge that we now have even more of a vested interest in seeing this football club grow and succeed. Our next fundraising initiatives and targets need to be set, and we welcome all voices and opinions to join in that debate at the meeting.
This is a new era not only for Barrow AFC but for its fan base and the Bluebirds Trust. What we have achieved so far has been incredible, but in many ways it only sets us on a path to much more work ahead. We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at the meeting on Saturday 9th March to start the next step of this journey.
Bluebirds Trust Director Proposed
We are pleased to inform all members that Levi Gill has been proposed to become the first Bluebirds Trust Director and represent us on the board of Barrow AFC.
During last week we advertised for nominations for the position of Bluebirds Trust Director for its inaugural term, running to September 2020. The creation of this role was a key motivation behind our decision to buy into the football club because it allows us a true and equal voice on the club board. The Bluebirds Trust Director, appointed solely by the fans, will represent our views and protect our investment, working alongside the other Directors to help realise the vision outlined at the recent “Meet the new owners” event.
You will have all seen communication about the timetable for a vote to select our first Director, however at the close of nominations Levi’s was the only submission we had received. Therefore in order to ensure that the Director is still – as they will always be – democratically elected by the fans, Levi’s name will now go forward at the next general meeting on March 9th for a vote of Trust members. If a majority of those present support Levi’s nomination then the Trust will proceed with appointing him to the role for its first term.
Levi is currently the Independent Secretary of the Trust having been appointed at the AGM last autumn.
We know what needs to happen in terms of making the club sustainable at this level in the longer term- we must increase off field revenue for the club. There are over 450 Trust members now, which is fantastic. If some could give a little time that would make such a difference. Either through helping the Trust or Club directly, we are generating support and money for Barrow AFC. We can either put you in the right place to help us best or point you in the right direction within the club. There are such an array of skills we can use. Anyone with any interest, please get in touch by e-mailing firstname.lastname@example.org or message us on Twitter or Facebook.
